In 1979, when Balintawak was hardly known outside the Philippines, Rad Maningas started his training under the tutorship and guidance of Manong Ted Buot until the latter's passing away in 2013. In 2015, Rad's "Balintawak Lessons in Eskrima," based on the teachings passed down from Anciong Bacon to Ted Buot came out of the press. Five years later in 2020, his second book "Applied Balintawak" was published to put down in writing all that was passed down to him by his mentor; the Bacon-Buot-Balintawak system of techniques, guidelines, and principles.
